The Immune System

Many of us have been ill quite a few times in our lives, and have been told by medical practitioners that we need to have a strong immune system in order to fight off illness. Well what is this ‘immune system’, where is it located and how can we strengthen it?

The immune system is a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to defend the body against attacks by “foreign invaders”. It helps the body defend against viruses and harmful bacteria which result into many illnesses.
When the immune system hits the wrong target, however, it can unleash a torrent of disorders; including allergic diseases, arthritis and a form of diabetes. If the immune system is crippled, other kinds of diseases can result.

So where is your immune system located? Research shows that more than 70% of your immune system is located in your gastrointestinal tract, also known as your gut- the inner tube of life. This is the primary area where your body uses beneficial bacteria and other organs to defend against foreign illness causing bacteria/ infections. It is here where the major part of the war against illness and infection is won.

"Cardio" Myth

Cardiovascular exercise frequently referred to as "cardio" or "aerobics" creates a continuous durational challenge on the heart. Usually done without rest. This mimics prolonged stress in a native environment. The heart feels like its under constant threat and attack. "Cardio" exercise is a waste of time and effort. The birth of long distance running, began with the ancient Greek long-distance messenger, Phidippides. He ran 26.2 miles from Marathon to Athens to tell of the victory of the Greeks over invading Persians. On his arrival, all he could master from the long distance he had run was "Nike!" (meaning Victory) then collapsed and checked out (died).

Forcing the body to perform the same continuous cardiovascular challenge, by repeating the same movement, at the same rate, thousands of times over without variation and without rest is unnatural. When looked at from an evolutionary perspective, this type of demand could have rarely happened.

Introducing Neo40 Daily

Nitric oxide (NO) is a multifunctional signaling molecule, intricately involved with maintaining a host of physiological processes including, but not limited to, host defense, neuronal communication, and the regulation of vascular tone.  NO is a potent vasodilator, a powerful anti-platelet and anti-leukocyte factor, and one of the most important signaling molecules in the human body.

LOOK AND FEEL GOOD EXPO 2012

On the 9th-11th of November 2012 a young and dynamic company called eWellness Solutions, took a formidable challenge of getting systems biology out of the laboratory into the more general human population for screening purposes and understanding South Africa's changing health patterns. This was successfully demonstrated at the Look & Feel Good Expo 2012 at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg.

Despite 21st century medical advances, major indications of population morbidity and mortality like diabetes, obesity, heart disease and all cancers(all problems in which genetic and environmental factors are closely linked) are rising all over the world. Many of these diseases may be related to changes in the activities or composition of the gut microbiota (microbiome), which has been profoundly affected by our lifestyle changes(especially antibiotic use) which are dished out like sweets in South Africa . The microbiome is the exact point where host genetics meets environment and eFortify considers  our gut the most integrated and influential 'environmental' factor. Humans have slowly evolved with this 'extended genome' of microbiota, perturbation of this close association is potentially dangerous and, controversially, might be the root cause of many modern diseases.
